BLOCK 1, 2018

Block 1 of the Professional Actor Training Course offers:
- The Melbourne International Comedy Festival Performance course. This course is run on a Tuesday night from our Clifton Hill venue and requires later rehearsals at our theatre in Kew. The course begins on Tuesday 13 February and ends on Sunday 22 April. Students attend once a week (on Tuesdays from 7.30pm – 9.30pm) in the initial stages, with extra rehearsals as the performances get closer.
- This is not “stand-up” comedy, but a course where each participant is given a number of scenes that are of a comic nature. They will include scenes of light comedy, as well as black comedy.
- The scenes will be chosen around a theme that will be the name of the show; this enables everyone to have a more or less equal time on stage, as opposed to doing a set play with large and small characters.
- You will be taught a variety of acting techniques that you can then apply to your scenes.
- Students will be carefully directed and not left to their own devices, which is why the major necessity for this course is enthusiasm.
- We take experienced and non-experienced people into this course, and are adept at making the combination of abilities and experience work as a whole. We have been running these shows in major festival for eight years, and each one has been a success. We place you with a partner (or partners) of similar experience, and make sure that everyone is well prepared before the first show.
- Although this course is open to people with and without experience, all are required to be committed to the course and have a strong desire to learn about acting at a deeper level.
- We can deal with the odd absence here and there (as is often necessary for unforeseen reasons), however we would appreciate that students only miss classes where absolutely necessary. (If you need to miss a couple of classes, this should not stop you from enrolling in the course.)
